Video Games 4 Vets

Problem: 

According to the RAND Center for Military Health Policy Research, more than 20 percent of veterans who served in Iraq or Afghanistan suffer from either major depression or PTSD. While studies from the U.S. Government Accountability Office show many veterans receive treatment, only 50% of returning veterans who need mental health treatment will receive these services. The barriers many Veterans face for treatment include various stigmas which include: lack of awareness, shame, location/access, and various other obstacles.

Resolution: 

Studies from Johns Hopkins University (Michelle Colder Carras) show many positive social advantages with “engaged gamers.” We will partner with these types of institutions and multiple Esports Labs across the U.S. to gather real data on the effects of gaming and mental health. Our goal is to provide a safe and welcoming place for Veterans through Esports and engagement, in efforts to improve mental health and quality of life.
